South Africa - One of the men accused of stealing and selling military ammunition tried to have his bail conditions relaxed so he could have sex with his girlfriend, as reported by The Star.
Gareth de Nysschen appeared in the Lenasia Magistrate's Court on along with co-accused Efthimios Demis Karamitsos on charges of dealing in more than 200,000 rounds of military ammunition allegedly stolen from 21 Infantry Battalion in Lenasia.
According to the report, De Nysschen previously explained to the court through an affidavit that he needed to move in with his girlfriend who wanted to offer him emotional support.
"I am effectively under house arrest and am prevented from having a normal sexual relationship with my girlfriend due to lack of privacy," he told the court.
Prosecutor Mienke Erasmus told magistrate Syfred Mati that De Nysschen's application was frivolous.
The court also heard that De Nysschen's legal team denied information in an affidavit, by the investigating officer, that his girlfriend had been described by his attorney as "a screamer".
Attorney Martin Hood indicated he would institute damages against the investigating officer over this and his lawyer Laurance Hodes accused the prosecution of trying to sensationalise the case for the media.
De Nysschen currently lives with his uncle in Boksburg.
